What is Applied Behavior Analysis?

ABA is an evidence-based approach to understanding how learning and behavior work—and using that understanding to build skills that matter in everyday life.

Individualized ABA services can support communication, social interaction, daily living, independence, and other meaningful goals. Care should be tailored to each person, guided by their strengths and needs, and developed in partnership with families.

ABA is not one-size-fits-all. A thoughtful plan begins with listening, understanding the individual, and identifying goals that are useful, respectful, and relevant to their life.

Autism Diagnostic Evaluations Across Kentucky

Get Answers Without the Long Wait

Appalachia Behavioral Health is now offering comprehensive autism diagnostic evaluations to families across Kentucky, with appointments currently available with minimal wait times.

If you have concerns about your child’s communication, social development, behavior, sensory needs, or overall development, you do not have to wait months for answers.

Comprehensive Autism Evaluations

Our diagnostic evaluations are designed to determine whether an individual meets criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder and to provide families with a clearer understanding of their child’s individual strengths and needs.

Evaluations may include:

  • Comprehensive developmental and clinical history
  • Direct clinical observation
  • ADOS-2, when clinically appropriate
  • Adaptive functioning assessment
  • Behavioral and emotional assessment
  • Cognitive or developmental assessment, when clinically indicated
  • Review of available medical, educational, and treatment records
  • Diagnostic formulation and differential diagnosis
  • Comprehensive written report
  • Individualized recommendations and next steps

Testing is selected based on the individual needs and clinical presentation of each patient.

Serving Families Across Kentucky

We are expanding access to autism diagnostic testing for families throughout Kentucky.

Depending upon the components of the evaluation and clinical requirements, portions of the assessment process may be completed remotely, while standardized measures requiring direct observation may be completed in person.

Owned and operated by a Middlesboro, Kentucky native, Appalachia Behavioral Health was established with a goal of reaching individuals and families who need support in rural Southeastern Kentucky.

The organization grew from seeing how difficult it can be for a family to connect with needed services after an autism diagnosis. Today, the team aims to lead with compassion and help families navigate their next steps.
